What small business website design should actually cost in the UK

Ask three people to quote your small business website design and you will get three very different numbers. That is not because one of them is trying it on. It is because the word website covers everything from a single page template to a properly planned, written and supported site that brings in work.

The three price bands you will meet

Most UK quotes fall into one of three bands, and each band buys a different level of thinking.

• Under £500: a template with your logo dropped in. Fine if you only need an online business card, but the copy, structure and follow up are all on you.
• £2,000 to £4,000: a designed and written site built around what your customers actually need to see before they call. This is where most small businesses land, and where our small business website design sits.

What actually drives the number

Page count matters far less than people expect. What moves the price is how much thinking is required: how clearly you already know your offer, whether the copy needs writing from scratch, how many quotes or bookings the site has to handle, and whether anyone needs to keep it working after launch.

The cost everybody forgets

A website is not a one off purchase. Hosting, updates, small text changes, new photos, a new service page: all of it lands after launch. A site with no support plan quietly goes stale, and a stale site stops earning. Budget for the ongoing bit from day one, even if it is small.
